Ceramics Classes & Workshops

The OSU Craft Center Ceramics Studio is designed as a welcoming and functional community space. There are 13 electric wheels, including a wheelchair accessible wheel. The studio also has 2 kick wheels, a hand-building space and a range of handbuilding supplies, wedging tables, a slab roller, a pug mill, and an assortment of high fire glazes. Ceramics Studio Manager, Chip Hand, and three student clay techs keep the studio running and the kilns firing. 

Classes are small, allowing for quality instructor time.

Class sign-ups are done in person, at the Craft Center.

Students can sign up starting for Spring 2024 classes on April 1st                        Staff, Faculty, and Adult Public can sign up starting April 8th

Classes

Pottery 101 with Chip

Tuesdays  6:30-8:30   April 16 - May 21

Fee Paying Student Class Fee: $60

Instructor: Chip Hand

Join Chip, an experienced and highly skilled potter, as you learn how to throw on the wheel. He will guide you through the entire process from start to finish. Leave the class with a collection of mugs and bowls!

Throwing on the Wheel with Rachel

Tuesdays 2-4:30   Apr. 16 - May 28

Be guided by a very experienced Instructor as you learn various skills and tips for successful throwing on the wheel in this 7-week class. Come away with small bowls, mugs, plates and a covered piece an have la lot of fun!

 

Throwing on the Wheel with Emmie

Mondays 5:30 - 8   Apr. 21 - May 22

Learn the basics of throwing on the wheel in a supportive and fun class. Come away with several hand-crafted pieces.

Handbuilding Extravaganza!

Thursdays 2-4:30   Apr. 18 - May 30

Instructor: Rachel Kirby (she/her)

Hand-building is a much easier way to make lots of ceramic pieces with little or no previous experience. In this 7-week class you will make mugs, vessels pencil/utensil holders, bowls, plates and a large planter or lasagna pan. Be guided by Rachel, a skilled and experienced Art Instructor. Try it out!

Intermediate Throwing with Niko

Thursdays  6:30-8:30   Apr. 18 - May 23

Ready to take your ceramic work to the next level? Please note: this class is not appropriate for beginners. Participants should be able to center and throw a 6" cylinder easily.

Creative Handles - Intermediate Workshop

Prior ceramics experience required. Hand-built techniques and how to improve pulled handles. Come with 4 leather-hard cylinders, either wheel-thrown or hand-built.

Altered Wheel Thrown Forms - Intermediate Workshop

Expand your skill set to create altered and faceted forms on the wheel. Instructor will demonstrate techniques on a variety of wheel-thrown vessels. Must be able to throw a 6" cylinder with ease.
