The Craft Center Wood Studio has offerings for members at multiple levels. At the general access level, after completing an orientation members with experience may use hand tools, including: drills, jigsaws, palm sanders, and more. If you know how to use the large equipment, pass the SAW and the quiz, then you can use the hand tools as well as the following: 2 band saws, a miter saw, 2 Saw Stop table saws, a Grizzly planer, a jointer, drill press, lathe, and a router. In addition, the studio offers Tech Hours, during which a wood tech is available to help you make a cut, plane a board, etc.

SAWS and general orientations are available during our tech times, (SAWS are by arrangement) or by signing up for a special SAW below.

*Use of large equipment entails a $20 lab fee, due at time of being cleared by a SAW.

Woodworking Tech Time will resume Fall term.

The first 30 minutes of the Safety Assessment Workshop (SAW) serves as an orientation for Craft center Student members who are wanting to use the Craft Center’s wood studio and hand tools.  Student Members wishing to use the studio and hand tools, but not the large equipment, may leave after the orientation. Otherwise, this 2-hour workshop is required for all new and returning members who are not registered in a wood class, who are Experienced Woodworkers, familiar with the safe & proper use of large power equipment. Orientations are good for one academic year with continuous membership. This class provides basic information on studio policies, equipment safety and provides wood for members to demonstrate their competency in safe and proper operational use of power tools.
